The Physical Education and Sports Program of Giresun University Faculty of Sport Sciences successfully completed the evaluation process conducted by the Sport Sciences Education Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Board (SPORAK), operating under the Sport Sciences Association (SBD), and earned the right to accreditation.
In line with the decision of the SBD Board of Directors dated 16 October 2026 and numbered 12, it was decided that the program would be accredited for a period of two years, from 16 October 2026 to 16 October 2028.
During the accreditation process, the program's education and training activities, program outcomes, physical and technological infrastructure, human resources, assessment and evaluation practices, and quality assurance systems were evaluated with a holistic approach. The result obtained became an important indicator of the work carried out by the faculty in line with its goals of improving quality in education and continuous improvement.
Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences Prof. Dr. Mehmet Türkmen, stating that the accreditation success was the result of collective effort and institutional cooperation, made the following assessment: "We are very pleased that our program has been accredited by SPORAK. This result is a concrete indicator of the importance we place on quality in our teacher training process and of our continuous improvement approach.
I would like to thank our Rector Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Can, who has not withheld his support throughout this process, as well as our Vice Rectors, our University's department heads, and our Accreditation, Academic Evaluation and Quality Coordination Office. I extend my gratitude to the members of our commission who carried out the accreditation process, our department chair, and all our faculty members, administrative staff and students who contributed to the process with their dedicated efforts.
Stating that the accreditation of the Physical Education and Sports Program of the Faculty of Sport Sciences is an important achievement demonstrating the progress made by Giresun University in the field of quality assurance, our Rector Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Can said that the evaluation of an education program according to criteria set by an independent organization, and the sharing of its results with the public, is one of the most concrete indicators of accountability.
Stating that the success achieved shows that the quality of education provided to students at Giresun University has been confirmed by an independent evaluation, our Rector expressed that they expect other departments and programs to contact accreditation bodies in their respective fields with the same determination, initiate self-assessment studies, and make the necessary preparations without wasting time.
Stating that spreading a culture of quality across all units of the University is among their priorities, Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Can emphasized that this understanding must go beyond board decisions and be reflected in the entire institutional operation, from classrooms to laboratories and administrative processes. Stating that this understanding is increasingly gaining strength at Giresun University, our Rector thanked the academic and administrative staff of the Physical Education and Sports Teaching Program, the Quality Commission, and the Accreditation, Academic Evaluation and Quality Coordination Office for their contributions to the accreditation process.
